After maintaining Cat 2 status for hours now, little change in strength is expected before Norbert reaches the Baja CA coast tomorrow morning. Although shear is increasing, the system is beginning to move northeastward in the direction the shearing winds are going (possibly negating the effect) and the waters actually warm on its track toward the coast. Hurricane warnings have been extended to include both sides of the Gulf of California, with tropical storm warnings extending southward. The storm is expected to remain a hurricane when it makes landfall on mainland Mexico tomorrow evening.
Meanwhile Tropical Storm Odile is approaching Greater Acapulco threatening some rainfall and gusty winds overnight. There is a chance the system could come ashore, but itapos;s forecast to remain offshore. Tropical Storm warnings are still in effect for the nearby coast.
